WHAT IT IS ABOUT
Changing and increasingly erratic climate means successful oilseed rape production is more diffi cult than ever. Increasingly frequent summer droughts are making it diffi cult to plant winter oilseed rape at the right time, while scorching heat at fl owering threatens pod development and ultimate yield.
One entirely new solution is DSV’s new RUNNER hybrid segment, the fi rst-ever cross between winter and spring oilseed rape.
“The Runner segment was created as a solution to the increasingly extreme and unpredictable conditions farmers face today. Our aim was to create a new kind of hybrid — a hybrid that closes the gap between spring and winter oilseed rape by allowing farmers to grow highyielding oilseed rape in regions where a winter crop just isn’t possible anymore.“

BEST PRACTICE FOR GROWING RUNNER HYBRIDS
- Optimize Sowing Density– Sow slightly more densely than conventional winter oilseed rape. Recommended: 50-60 seeds/m²; for later sowing, increase to 70 seeds/m².
- Timely Nitrogen Application– Runner hybrids need early access to nutrients. Apply 70-80% of total nitrogen before vegetation starts, and the rest before elongation. Use CAN + sulfur for best results.
- Monitor Growth Stages Closely – Faster growth requires early interventions. Scout for pests (e.g., stem weevils, pollen beetles) and apply a growth regulator at the 4-6 leaf stage in autumn.
