After more than 40 years of working at Deutsche Saatveredelung AG (DSV), the company has now bid farewell to Johannes Peter Angenendt – Executive Board Member and Managing Director for the last 18 years, and also a respected personality in the seed industry.

Deutsche Saatveredelung AG welcomed more than 120 guests to the official farewell ceremony for its long-standing Executive Board Member Johannes Peter Angenendt in Anröchte in mid-June. Among the guests were many representatives from the seed industry, long-standing business peers, selected DSV employees, as well as members of the Angenendt family.

Angenendt joined the plant breeding company as a field advisor in 1978. From 1983 to 1991, he headed the DSV branch office in Weeze before relocating to the corporate headquarters in Lippstadt as a Marketing Manager in 1991. After the Berlin wall came down, he provided great support for DSV activities in the new German federal states.

Under his management, DSV successfully expanded its business activities both on a national and global scale. For example: In his role as Managing Director of the Rapool-Ring since 1999, Angenendt contributed significantly to DSV becoming the oilseed rape market leader in Germany, and also to the foundation of various subsidiary companies worldwide.

In 2001, Angenendt took over the position of Managing Director of DSV GmbH and became a Member of the Executive Board after the change of legal form of the company.

The father of three also held honorary offices in various associations of the seed industry. He was a Board Member of the Federal Association of German Plant Breeders (BDP), Head of the Forage Crops Department, a Member of the Administrative Board of Saatguttreuhand-Verwaltungs GmbH (STV), a Member of the Section for Oil and Fibre crops (SOF) of the European Seed Association (ESA), to mention just a few of his many activities. Furthermore, social commitment has always been a matter of the heart for Johannes Peter Angenendt, who recently turned 64. Mr. Angenendt is an active member of his church community and will take over the position of President of the Erwitte-Hellweg Rotary Club after entering retirement.

His outstanding activities already received special recognition in 2014: He was presented with the title of “Entrepreneur of the Year” – an honorary award which was bestowed for the first time by the German agricultural magazine agrarzeitung. The magazine presents this award to outstanding people who have made a significant contribution to the development of the agricultural sector thanks to their great creativity, entrepreneurial skills and foresight.

In his address on behalf of the plant breeders at the farewell ceremony, Dr. Stefan Streng, Managing Director of Saatzucht Streng-Engelen GmbH & Co KG, praised Angenendt’s activities. He was especially committed to matters of overriding importance, such as the protection of intellectual property, independent variety testing, as well as free access to plant genetic resources. Streng emphasized that “Mutually, not unilaterally – together, not against each other” has always been Angenendt’s credo.

Supervisory Board Chairman Friedhelm Hüneke commended Angenendt’s exceptional work. Thanks to his profound expertise, consistently practice-oriented approach and good intuition, he added many more chapters to the success story of DSV and demonstrated great commitment to mastering the challenges of an increasingly globalised business world which is more and more affected by political influences.

Angenendt will be succeeded by Dr. Eike Hupe, who has been in charge of Marketing, Sales and Breeding for one year now. He will lead DSV together with Clive Krückemeyer, who is responsible for Supply Chain, Finance and Human Resources.
