Deutsche Saatveredelung AG (DSV) is pleased about its internationally successful cereal breeding. This year, outstanding winter barley and wheat varieties especially in resistance, could be registered in the UK, France and Germany.

Sensation - The multiresistent barley
The new approval from DSV breeding Sensation (winter barley 6-row), is an absolute novelty on the barley market and a milestone in modern resistance breeding. It is the first variety to carry multi-resistance to the soil-born yellow mosaic viruses (BaYMV-1, BaYMV-2, BaYMMV) and the yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) and thus offers the practitioner the highest level of cultivation safety. Sensation enables early sowing dates without the risk of being infected by the yellow dwarf virus transmitted by aphids. For the first time, Sensation is a variety on the market that makes this property available for locations with yellow mosaic virus type 2. As this virus often occurs on sites with heavy soils, some of which are also shallow ground (and have a higher risk), early ear emergence and ripening is of additional benefit to the sites. Sensation has a wide ecological spread due to its equipment and can be recommended for cultivation on all sites. Its rounded resistance profile allows it to be used flexibly in crop rotation after all preceding crops. The variety profile is completed by good grain quality, sufficient winter hardiness, top straw stability and outstanding early ripeness.

In the Netherlands, the winter wheat variety Toby was registered
TOBY, the new high yielding and healthy fodder variety was the result. Besides the outstanding yield performance (treated and untreated), TOBY shows short straw and good straw stability. Furthermore, TOBY is the only one on the variety list in the Netherlands with a resistance score of 9,0 for Septoria tritici. Toby has a huge potential as a low-maintenance, high-yielding wheat for the future. Along with its excellent diseases package TOBY also has the Sm1 gene for orange wheat blossom midge resistance.

In Germany the winter barley variety Paradies was registered
PARADIES is the first approved variety of multi-rowed winter barley with resistance to barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV resistance) in Germany. It has been developed in the DSV cereal breeding programme in Leutewitz. PARADIES provides a risk-free, cost-effective means of cultivating winter barley with earlier sowing dates and mild autumns when the aphids are on the wing.

In UK Theodore was registered in December
Theodore has joined a place on the Recommended List 2020/2021join the 2020/2021 Recommended List as a recommended variety. Theodore is a high yielding hard feed winter wheat with good disease resistance. It has outstanding yield, which has outperformed all the controls, making it a farmerfriendly variety to grow in the future with the ever increasing reductions in herbicides use.
Theodore has the highest Septoria tritici score (8.2) of all the NL2 varieties and controls, (with DSVs other feed variety DSV316127 just 0.1 below with a score of 7.1, making DSV a top choice for Septoria tritici). It also has the highest score for yellow rust and a strong brown rust score of 7. Overall it has a robust and all-round package for disease resistance. Theodore has the highest Septoria tritici score (8.2) of all the varieties and controls in the RL 2020/2021. It also has the highest score for yellow rust (9) and a strong brown rust score of 7. Overall it has a robust and all-round package for disease resistance.
