The origins of quality rape breeding
DSV starts winter oilseed rape breeding
1966
At the beginning of the 1960s, DSV adopts the "Donzdorfer Hofsorte", an intercrop oilseed rape. This farmyard variety is particularly suitable on limestone weathered soils or marginal soils. Due to its fast growth, it still produced satisfactory forage yields in the fall.
Grain oilseed rape trials, especially in Schleswig-Holstein on the east coast, showed that the variety was also suitable as grain oilseed rape. DSV thus marketed this winter oilseed rape variety under the name SONNENGOLD.
