Reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea)

Healthy yielder

The reed canary grass LIPAULA prefers moist and oxygen-rich locations, but not standing waters. It forms high and dense plant stocks, which resemble reeds in appearance. Reed canary grass is a light-loving but also half-shade tolerating grass. The plant stock can be used up to 10 years, whereas the yields can vary between 10 and 15 t DM/ha. If LIPAULA is used in biogas plants, the Methane yield is more than twice compared to Meadow fescue or Giant fescue. Due to the multi-annuality and the long resting of the soil, reed canary grass helps to protect against soil erosion. LIPAULA has a low demand for plant protection and therefore a positive effect on the ecological balance.
