Deutsche Saatveredelung AG (DSV) with a workforce of 360 and annual sales of around 73 million euros is one of Germany’s leading plant breeding companies. Founded over 80 years ago, it now has some 790 shareholders, chiefly farmers and staff. No shareholder may own more than 10 % of DSV’s share capital.
As well as the head office and base in Lippstadt, the company has various seed breeding
stations, a main testing station, plus a number of testing sites; and a nationwide regionally
distributed network of branch offices and technical advisors with their own processing plants and
seed storage and sales facilities.
DSV maintains substantial shareholdings in key seed businesses at home and abroad. It has also established fully owned subsidiaries in other countries – DSV Polska, DSV France, DSV Ukraina and DSV United Kingdom.
DSV focuses on seed breeding, production, advisory services and sales with the emphasis on grass, oilseed rape and cereal crops, making it a “one stop” organisation.
Breeding – The company’s seed breeding activities aim to offer farmers at home and abroad
constantly improved varieties for commercially and ecologically successful plant production. DSV
has its own plant breeding stations in Germany and other countries for this purpose and
collaborates closely in a network with partner companies.
Production – More than 1000 seed growing farms are contracted to produce seeds for DSV. A nationwide network of branch stations equipped with the latest processing facilities is available in Germany to treat and produce high-grade seed material.
Advisory services – Great importance is attached to providing qualified advisory services for customers. That is why a large field force and regional offices throughout Germany maintain close contact with farmers.
Sales – DSV and its associates market the seed worldwide, selling altogether 25,000 tonnes
of seed a year.
